Briones Business Law Consulting, P.C, is a new kind of law firm. We are driven to be the best business law firm in New Mexico by providing outside, “in-house” counsel services through the Corporate Counsel On Demand program to businesses at a reasonable, reliable fixed rate in order to allow the client to better use and access our services. We work directly with the owners of companies and their senior staff, meeting regularly and getting to know your business from top to bottom to become part of your team.

Mr. Briones’ practice focuses primarily in the areas of Business and Commercial law. He is an experienced business and trial lawyer, having handled numerous complex and transactional litigation matters.

Thomas R. Briones | Attorney
Thomas R. Briones has been a business attorney for nearly 30 years. His law firm, Briones Business Law Consulting, P.C., is a business-focused boutique law firm in Albuquerque, providing outside general counsel services to local business owners.
Tom lives in Albuquerque New Mexico with his wife, Stephanie, who graduated from UNM's School of Medicine and is currently completing her residency in anesthesiology an UNM Hospital.

Raquel Koch Vaz | Attorney
Raquel is originally from Brazil, where she graduated from law school and practiced law in the areas of consumer rights and employment law. She grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, with her parents, grandparents, and uncles owning several businesses, from truck companies to bed & breakfast. After moving to the United States in 2014, Raquel decided to explore her entrepreneurial side and start her own small business. In 2019, she decided to change directions and pursue her J.D. degree to become a licensed attorney in the United States. However, Raquel’s interest in business and entrepreneurship helped guide her path in the practice of law; her practice focuses on business law and related areas. Raquel enjoys helping businesses navigate the legal
landscape and reach their full potential. In her free time, Raquel enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband, exploring all the beauty of New Mexico, and traveling.

Taylor Duffney | Attorney
Taylor K. Duffney was born and raised here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is tremendously passionate about working with business owners and small businesses in New Mexico in order to help strengthen and improve the local community. Taylor received her undergraduate degree from Arizona State University but chose to return home to attend law school and practice law in New Mexico. While attending law school, Taylor recognized her love for business law early on and joined the student chapter of the Business Law Section of the New Mexico Bar. This opportunity allowed her to network with like-minded individuals and gain a more intimate understanding of business law. Taylor joined Briones Business Law Consulting P.C. as a law clerk during her 3L year of law school and joined as an Associate Attorney after passing the New Mexico Bar in 2021. In her time outside of the office, Taylor enjoys spending time with her family, trying new local restaurants and breweries, playing fantasy football with her friends, and traveling to new places.

Paola Lozoya | Legal Assistant
Paola assists attorneys Taylor, Raquel, and Amber. She is diligent and goal-oriented. When a task is given to her, she makes sure it is handled with care and high importance. Paola also helps with scheduling meetings and helps with administrative duties. Furthermore, she is team-oriented and loves to give a helping hand to her colleagues. Outside of the office, she enjoys Puzzles, Drawing, Watching Football, and spending time with her dog.

Serena Montoya | Legal Assistant
Serena is attentive and dependable; She helps with various tasks such as scheduling clients, organizing events, and attending meetings. She is currently taking online classes at National University to become a paralegal in criminal administration. Serena’s goal with her paralegal certificate is to help her community achieve success. She is proud to work with a team that’s vision is to be “a change agent for prosperity in our community by making it easier for our clients to achieve success” (Tom Briones). Furthermore, she has learned through Briones Business Law Consulting many skills and a very clear picture of what passion looks like. Outside of the office, Serena enjoys reading at different cafes (especially Little Bear Café or Pinon). She also enjoys rock climbing and spending time with her family.

Sara Aslami | Receptionist/Intern
Sara was born and raised in Iran and moved here to Albuquerque when she was 12 years old. Sara has worked for her dad for as long as she can remember at many of his local businesses. “Working alongside him from such a young age allowed me to see the world through his perspective, which taught me a lot of valuable skills both for my personal life and future career” she says. She knew she wanted to attend law school from a young age but since English is her second language, this made her strive to straighten her writing skills. Sara is set to graduate this year from UNM with her English Major and Sociology Minor and is currently in the process of deciding where she wants to apply for law school. Sara loves the environment at BBLC and appreciates learning from everyone in the office. Besides work and school, Sara enjoys learning how to sew from her mom, painting with her friends, and spending time with her dog. Her name is Peach!

Vince Sandoval | Executive Assistant
Vincent Sandoval is an enthusiastic person who handles his responsibilities as an Executive Assistant with patience and tact. He is largely responsible for the firm’s finances and billing, which allows him to establish a close relationship with our clients. He is currently attending the University of New Mexico where he plans to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a minor in Philosophy. Outside of work and school, Vince spends his free time with his involvement in local politics, writing music for his band, and spending time with his two dogs.
